Our Handsome Boy Nero
Our wonderful Nero has now been retired. We are very proud of the puppies he has sired.
Our Sweet Girl Locksie
Locksie will be retired after her spring 2023 litter. Her puppies were always a beautiful surprise with their lovely colours.
Our Beautiful Georgie
Georgie has been retired , we were very pleased with her final litter
Our wonderful poodles have been chosen to accentuate each others’ strengths. When we breed them together, we are working towards improving each generation of poodles.

Our poodles do have some characteristics in common;

All of our dogs are very calm in the house with no rowdy behavior

All of them love car rides with no car sickness

They are very calm in the face of loud noises and activity, definitely not nervous dispositions

(I need to push them out of the way while trying to vacuum, they slept through the power tool use during our house renovation,  they sleep around my feet while I am in the kitchen, we have trained them to stay lying down when we walk near or over them, so that they don’t jump up and trip anyone)

They are all good when eating with each other and do not fight over food

Please bear in mind that some of these characteristics are trained/learned behavior, but if the dogs’ disposition was naturally nervous then it would take much training to overcome these characteristics.

Below I have listed each dogs’ relevant features and what we are hoping to achieve in our litters.

Nero: (Now Retired 2021) His pedigree is a mixture of champion show dogs and pet dogs. He is the absolute best stud I could pick to have in my breeding program. We imported him from the USA and he is now CKC (Canadian Kennel Club) registered. His temperament is fantastic, he is easily taught, is very playful with humans and gets along well with other dogs in a respectful manner. He has a high drive to please and is quite attached to us as his family and is very affectionate. He makes a reliable watchdog and will accept strangers if given permission to do so. As a great swimmer, it is hard to keep him out if the water is warm enough (meaning not frozen solid!)  A very willing retriever with a strong prey drive. His muscle development is spectacular with high exercise needs and he has excellent stamina, easily keeping up with any level of activity that is asked of him..

His beautiful masculine face with expressive eyes and ears easily display his feelings. He is a lovely gunmetal Blue in colour with a correct harsh wooly coat. His teeth are good and healthy with a correct bite (alignment) . He has a docked tail and removed dewclaws. Nero is a heavier sturdier build and weighs about 70 lbs when in good condition (but loses weight by not eating when the girls are in heat)

Locksie: ( Retired Summer 2023)Her pedigree is made up of pet dogs. She was also imported from the USA, is now CKC registered. She is the sweetest cuddle-bug you could ever imagine and is much more interested in her people than other dogs, which she mostly ignores. She is Boss Dog around here and keeps the other two in line. She is extremely tolerant of “unpleasant” activities, grooming, nail clipping, vet visits etc. She very quickly is friendly with strangers and is willing to accept love and pats from just about anyone. She is not fascinated with water and tends to stay very clean. Not a strong retriever, she will chase a ball etc, but mostly so that she can tease the other dogs with it. Her prey drive is fairly low but will emerge in certain situations (she once leapt into the air and caught a blue jay that was flying away with some of her food!) Her stamina, muscle tone and exercise needs are much lower than Nero’s, she is kind of a couch potato.

Locksie is a beautiful soft black with a small white blaze on her chest , her coat is fairly soft but easy to care for. Her coat may become a little more harsh/wooly with age but will always be somewhat soft. She has excellent shiny white teeth with a good bite. She has a very slim delicate build, is extremely flexible (she has crawled through a cat door on more than one occasion) She has a very pretty feminine face and beautiful dark eyes. She has a docked tail and her dewclaws are removed.

By breeding Nero and Locksie, we are hoping to have pups that are balanced in body type and behavior.  Puppies that are less heavy than Nero and therefore needing somewhat less exercise and a bit more flexibility than such a muscular dog. We hope to lower prey drive and reduce some of the desire for water.

This should result in puppies that are slimmer in build, with lighter exercise needs but are athletic, are friendly and cuddly but not overly affectionate with strangers, less water focused and lower prey drive. These puppies will make very good dogs for active families, there is a high probability of agility and obedience prospects and likely excellent therapy dogs (for many people a softer coat is more appealing to  touch). This breeding is not expected to produce show dogs. We will not know what to expect for colours since Nero and Locksie have been genetically tested showing that they carry pretty much all colours, so we can expect a rainbow litter of puppies.

Georgie:  (Retired Fall 2023)She comes to us from a Canadian breeder of beautiful show dogs, we can’t thank her breeder enough for allowing us to have one of her very beautiful puppies. Georgie’s pedigree is almost entirely champion show dogs. She has a lovely temperament, not aggressive with other dogs, but showing strong instinct to play. She has learned to be gentle with the cats but still enjoys chasing them. She loves her family and wants as much love and cuddles as she can get. She is still somewhat wary of strangers but eagerly accepts new people once they become familiar. Like Nero, it is practically impossible to keep her out of water.  She enjoys retrieving, however, she does not enjoy giving back the ball. She has good stamina and muscle tone and has fairly high exercise needs. Georgie’s prey drive appears moderate to strong from what we have seen with her behavior around smaller animals.

Georgie is a gorgeous silver with a coat that is in the process of changing from soft puppy hair to a harsher, wooly, more correct “poodle-y” coat. She has a moderate body type ( slimmer than Nero but more muscular than Locksie) Georgie has nice teeth with a correct bite, dark mischievous eyes and a pretty, curious face. Georgie still has a complete tail and has both dewclaws, (Canadian Laws are changing regarding these alterations and  they are illegal in some provinces, with the other provinces expected to follow)

By breeding Nero and Georgie we are hoping to produce puppies that will retain a sportier build, that love water and make good retrievers. Prey drive will probably remain high. We are expecting puppies with a fairly high amount of muscle, stamina and, exercise needs. The puppies should have a harsh poodle-y coat that is water resistant. We are anticipating the puppies will be interested in a job to do. It is possible that prospective  show dog puppies may be produced but there is no guarantee with this breeding.

Overall we expect puppies somewhat sturdier than a show dog but more refinement than our muscular Nero. Puppies should be water and exercise focused but not obsessed. These puppies should easily fit into multi-dog households or situations where dogs need to work together in a group. Hunting, Obedience, Dock Diving, Barn Hunt, or other sporting event that incorporates many dogs. Another sport that is unusual for poodles but may be possible with these puppies is Schutzhund (obedience&protection training). Due to higher prey drive We would recommend that these puppies be carefully introduced to a household with small animals (such as traditional prey animals like rabbits, mice, hamsters etc.)  Or very small dogs (for the simple reason that these will be large muscular puppies and may play roughly).  We anticipate mostly blue, silver and silver beige/cafe au lait
